Hi all AMIGA-fans ..
here are two icon libraries for your \windows\-directory (for example)
newicons.icl
newfolderc.icl
Both include converted newicons from the Amiga (platform/isometric styled).
The files of this package has long filenames, so be sure to extract with WinZip32 or
similar..
Be sure to set the Icon-Size in your windows-environment to 40 (they're 40x40 sized!)
(display-properties or win-registry) and to 256 colors or more (win-registry):
hkey_current_user/control Panel/desktop/windowmetrics/
Shell Icon BPP - 8 (I suggest 16, 16bit icons looks nicer, esp. such thumbnailed BMPs :) )
Shell Icon Size - 40
To replace the standard Windows-Icons, you should have a programme to view icon-
libraries, 'cause you need the internal numbers of the icons. Open the
windows/system/shell32.dll and look for the "internal" number of the icon you want
to replace (you may need to substract 1 from this number). Then go into the
registry:
hkey_local_machine/software/microsoft/windows/currentversion/explorer/shellicons/
add new string, name the string as the number of the shell32-icon you want to exchange
and set the value of this string to the icon you want to use ..
An example is in this archive called newicons.reg. It's not 100% however, I believe that
some Icons have the wrong number of newicons.icl (1 too high/low), but this is
how I've set it some days before..
.. BUT: be sure not only to import this registry-file, this is not enough. My windows-
directory is D:\windows\ - so you may change every string to the path where YOU have
the *icl-files installed (and also the user_amiga.ico) !!!
After this it may necessary to clean up win95s shell-icon-cache if the old icons are still
shown after a reboot.
I've read somewhere, it's enough to delete the hidden shell-icon-cache-file
in the windows-directory. I tried it but without that success and found a "Clean IconCache"
utility supplied with the "The Iconmagician"-package (a shareware to replace desktop
folders) which does the job better..
Also included is "user_amiga.ico", an icon which should replace the microsoft-logo you found
anywhere (start-menu for example) with an amiga-checkmark. (To change it, you could load
user.exe in the microangelo-librarian, choose the first icon to edit it and.. well, you should
manage it ;) )
So, end of this small doku-hack ;) (More than I thought it would be :) )
NOTES: The Icons are all converted from various newicons-packages from the Amiga like
AESIcons and ICONZ-A and so on, so I've not drawn them, I only converted them
(Well, at least, user_amiga.ico is 100% mine, the logo is -- hm -- (c) Amiga Inc. ? :-) )
